Kg. Ivanov et Vi. Ivanovomskyi, FIR RADIATION INTERFEROMETRY IN BISMUTH INDUCED BY A MAGNETIC-FIELD, Infrared physics & technology, 38(1), 1997, pp. 35-38
The study of FIR radiation (lambda = 337 mu m) propagation through a p
lane-parallel plate of single crystal bismuth in the presence of a mag
netic field is reported. Effects induced by electro-magnetic interfere
nce were observed and connected with the propagation of Alfven-waves.
The value of the refractive index was found to vary in the range 7.3-4
.6 for the magnetic field interval 3.1-5.0 T. It is shown that a singl
e crystal of bismuth inserted in the magnetic field may be used to obt
ain interferograms (fast Fourier transform spectroscopy) of submillime
ter radiation with a scanning duration of 10(-5) s.
