High-spin states of the stable isotope W-182 have been studied using t
he reactions Yb-176(C-13, alpha 3n)W-182 and Yb-176(Be-9, 3n)W-182 at
beam energies of 65 and 40 MeV, respectively. Three, possibly four, ne
w intrinsic states at high spins have been observed corresponding to d
ifferent high-K four-quasi-particle structures. The K-pi = 15(+) and 1
7(-) levels have lifetimes of 78(15) and 25(10) ns, respectively. Rota
tional bands are observed built on the K-pi = 16(+) and 17(-) yrast st
ates. The coupling of Nilsson orbitals which give rise to high-K state
s at the yrast line and the K-forbiddenness of the K-pi = 15(+) isomer
ic decay are discussed.
