Abstract
The spectral peak-fitting function introduced by L'Hoir, has been foun d to provide adequate definition of the peaks encountered in the energ y spectrum of alpha-particle emissions. Recently, the use of a Simplex algorithm has enabled the simultaneous fitting of several peaks to yi eld revised estimates of the emission probabilities for Pu-239. A simi lar procedure has now been applied to alpha-particle spectra obtained from a thin source of Am-241 using a high-resolution Si detector. The values obtained for the emission probabilities are compared to those t abulated in the literature and the associated uncertainties are discus sed in some detail.
