Abstract
A new approach for attaching optical fibers to LiNbO3 integrated optic devices is described. The all-solder approach, which uses no organic adhesives, is fast, robust, and low cost. A three-port fiberoptic gyro chip was pigtailed, and' temperature cycled from 20 to 100-degrees-C with only +/- 0.5-dB change in optical insertion loss.
