Abstract
The finite-element method is applied to the analysis of curvature loss es of whispering gallery modes in an optical dielectric disk. Numerica l examples on the dielectric disks with various side shapes are given. We also demonstrate that when the curvature radius of the disk is lar ge enough, the difference between the propagation constants obtained b y considering and by ignoring the curvature loss is very small.
