Abstract
The authors report the measurement of the relative intensity noise (RI N) of large area vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) in a multimode fibre link. It is found that the RIN of the large area VCSE Ls under modulation is < -120dBMz below a frequency of 1GHz and that r eflection noise is significantly reduced with modulation.
