A novel wavelength tunable self-seeding configuration without classica
l wavelength selective elements is presented. A multimode gain-switche
d Fabry-Perot laser shows singlemode emission in this configuration. T
he extremely simple setup consists only of the laser diode,a fibre cou
pler and 1km of dispersion shifted fibre. The lasing wavelength is con
trolled by varying the repetition frequency. A sidemode suppression ra
tio better than 20dB over a 40nm tuning range is achieved.
