This work compares at a statistical level two different chromatographi
c methods, a direct gas chromatography and a headspace gas chromatogra
phy, each with its own standardisation. In the first method, the stand
ardisation is performed with aqueous solutions of pure ethylene oxide.
In the second method, the standardisation proceeds from the in situ s
ynthesis of ethylene oxide by 2-chloroethanol, prior to the injection
in the column. Furthermore, syringes and transfusion sets have been ex
posed to pure ethylene oxide (EO) and, after desorption, residual EO h
as been measured using both methods. Results are discussed using a sta
tistical approach.
