For an implicit continuous-time system with arbitrary constant coeffic
ients we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for solvability of
the associated free end-point linear-quadratic optimal control proble
m. In particular, this problem turns out to be solvable if and only if
tile underlying system is output stabilizable, as is the case for a s
tandard system.
