Two new diterpenoids, teubrevins A and B, have been isolated from the
aerial parts of Teucrium brevifolium (Labiatae). The structures of teu
brevin A [(1R,12S)-3 beta-acetoxy-4 alpha,18;15,16-diepoxy-6 beta-hydr
oxy- 10-oxo-5,10-seco-1,6-cyclo-neo-cleroda-5(19),1 1] and its gp-hydr
oxy derivative (teubrevin B, 2) were established by spectroscopic mean
s, including an X-ray diffraction analysis of the former. Compounds I
and 2 possess a new 5,10-seco-1,6-cyclo-neo-clerodane skeleton, the bi
ogenesis of which is briefly discussed.
