A. Caufriez, THE PUBERTAL SPURT - EFFECTS OF SEX STEROIDS ON GROWTH-HORMONE AND INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH-FACTOR-I, European journal of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive biology, 71(2), 1997, pp. 215-217
In puberty, the growth spurt and the appearance of secondary sex chara
cteristics occur concomitantly with an increase of sex steroids, growt
h hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I). A number of e
xperiments indicate that sex steroids exert a stimulatory action on th
e somatotropic axis. This effect is due to an amplifying action of oes
tradiol (secreted by the ovaries dr after testosterone aromatization)
on the neuroendocrine regulation of pulsatile GH release. (C) 1997 Els
