The measurements of pressure P(m) and molar volume V(m) for solid hydr
ogen and deuterium as functions of temperature along the melting line
have been developed for the pressure region up to 60 MPa by using a di
electric method and experimental installation developed by the authors
. The influence of zero translational vibrations on the melting of sol
id gases was investigated on the basis of adiabatic criteria of meltin
g. Values of V(m)(T) for both isotopes measured in this paper, as well
as the literature data on V(m)(T) for H-2 and D2 for P(m) up to appro
ximately 10(3) MPa are described by a unified equation which is the th
ermodynamic result of this criterion.
