Using the recently formulated k perpendicular-to-clustering algorithm
for lepton-hadron collisions, we compute the average number of hadroni
c jets produced in deep inelastic scattering, as a function of the mom
entum transfer Q2, the Bjorken variable x and the jet resolution param
eter f(cut). For small values of f(cut) we are able to resum leading a
nd next-to-leading loprithms of f(cut) to all orders in QCD perturbati
on theory. The result is simply related to the average jet multiplicit
y in e+ e- annihilation, with a structure-function-dependent correctio
n. For larger values of f(cut) we match the resummed predictions to fi
rst-order numerical results.
