Conflict arising from differences in business practices, standards, va
lues, and norms guiding behavior are inherent in international busines
s. These conflicts are evident in Mexico's maquiladora industry, parti
cularly relating to issues of worker health, safety, and environment.
This article extends a model of conflict management; illustrates the m
odel's dimensions with case study examples; discusses strategic human
resource management implications of the model's various outcomes; offe
rs recommendations for managing worker health, safety, and environment
