PUCCINIA-CYGNORUM SP-NOV ON KUNZEA-ERICIFOLIA IN AUSTRALIA

Puccinia cygnorum, a twig and leaf rust on Kunzea ericifolia in Wester n Australia, is described and illustrated. Only teliospores have been found. Sori girdle young stems, disrupting the cortex and vascular tis sue, resulting in leaf discoloration and death of shoots. The rust is compared with some South American species of Puccinia on Myrtaceae. Th is is the first Puccinia, and the second rust, found on Myrtaceae in A ustralia.
