Abstract
Mesitylene, 2-methoxynaphthalene, 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene, xylene and anisole were all benzotriazolylalkylated by treatment with 1-(benzenes ulphonyl)benzotriazole and an aromatic aldehyde. Upon displacement of benzotriazole, the functionalized aromatic compounds were transformed into asymmetrically trisubstituted methanes and functionalized indoles .
