Abstract
The prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases in devel oping countries is complicated by a number of factors. High prevalence rates, inadequate diagnostic and treatment facilities, frequent resis tance to less expensive antibiotics, associations both epidemiological ly and clinically with the HIV pandemic, and a variety of social, beha vioural and economic factors act as constraints to effective control.
