The use of rectangular and triangular basis functions in the method of
moments to analyze the problem of scattering of electromagnetic waves
by dielectric objects with high dielectric constant (epsilon(r) > 10)
leads to convergence problems due to the spurious charges associated
with the basis functions. To overcome this problem, solenoidal basis f
unctions that eliminate the spurius charges generated by rectangular a
nd triangular basis functions have been proposed. In this article we p
resent results for the analysis of the scattering of TM waves by a chi
ral circular cylinder with the use of the method of moments and soleno
idal basis functions. (C) 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
