The operations analysis curriculum at the Naval Postgraduate School ha
s responded to a variety of pressures for change in the 45 years since
its founding, and its managers have continually wrestled with the the
ory-versus-practice question that has recently preoccupied ORSA/TIMS a
nd INFORMS. Even though NPS is almost unique among graduate schools on
account of its navy sponsorship, our experiences may still be of inte
rest to others.
