Hr. Weiss et al., BILATERAL SPONTANEOUS FRACTURE OF THE NEC K OF THE FEMUR IN PRIMARY BILIARY LIVER-CIRRHOSIS - A CASE-REPORT, Aktuelle Rheumatologie, 18(6), 1993, pp. 212-215
Presentation of a case of spontaneous bilateral fracture of the neck o
f the femur in association with biliary cirrhosis. No case report of t
his kind has been published so far in the accessible literature. Where
as most authors link osteoporosis with primary biliary cirrhosis, othe
r authors believe that osteoporosis associated with primary biliary ci
rrhosis may also be due to the advanced age of those patients in whom
the disease is mainly manifest. The case presented here concerns a fem
ale patient of 74 years of age suffering concomitantly from osteoporos
is for many years. Pseudarthrosis of the ischium had been present prio
r to the spontaneous fracture of the neck of the femur occurring bilat
erally in sequence. Hence, our case report cannot help to answer the q
uestion as to whether osteoporosis may be ascribed to the primary bili
ary cirrhosis or to the advanced age of the patient.
