J. Onoda et K. Minesugi, SEMIACTIVE VIBRATION SUPPRESSION OF TRUSS STRUCTURES BY COULOMB-FRICTION, Journal of spacecraft and rockets, 31(1), 1994, pp. 67-74
An approach for semiactive vibration suppression of truss structures b
y means of dry friction is proposed and evaluated. The present approac
h employs frictional truss members and adaptively controls the frictio
nal forces according to the vibration condition. Because of the passiv
e nature, the resulting system is always stable and requires neither h
igh speed nor accurate control, and thus, the control system can be ve
ry simple. Furthermore, the control is suitable for local implementati
on. Numerical simulations of truss structures with multiple variable-f
rictional members show that the present approach overcomes the disadva
ntages of passive-frictional damping. A vibration suppression experime
nt demonstrates the practicality of this approach.
