Oi. Vinogradova, ADHESION OF PARTICLES OF DIFFERENT DEGREES OF HYDROPHOBICITY TO A BUBBLE IN A COLLISION, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 55(4), 1993, pp. 517-524
The adhesion of hydrophobic particles to a bubble in a collision has b
een studied theoretically. The role of hydrophobicity is manifested in
the slip of the liquid relative to the solid surface and an increase
in the critical thickness of the interlayer; after this thickness has
been reached a breach of the interlayer takes place with the formation
of a contact angle. An expression is derived for the velocity of appr
oach of the particle to the bubble. Analysis of this expression shows
that from the standpoint of the approach dynamics, hydrophobicity is a
relative concept. For particles of different degrees of hydrophobicit
y, the adhesion criteria are formulated, and the induction time is ana
lyzed.
