Abstract
Pump-probe studies of I2 in matrix Ar, with a time resolution of 180 f s, are reported. The experiments are simulated using classical molecul ar dynamics. Dissociative excitation of I2 (A) results in coherent cag e-induced recombination on the A/A' surfaces. The recombinant molecule vibrates coherently even after extensive energy loss.
