Abstract
Milling of sugar cane is concerned with the extraction of sugar bearin g juice by crushing in a cascaded series of mills. The problem dealt w ith in this paper is the design and testing of a mill control system t o provide good extraction in spite of large variations in the milling properties of the cane. The control strategy adopted is based on a Lin ear Quadratic Gaussian with Loop Transfer Recovery (LQG/LTR) method to reject the disturbances due to the cane changes and modified to accom modate plant constraints.
