Photodissociation dynamics of H2S has been studied using the degenerat
e four-wave mixing (DFWM) technique at 266 nm and room temperature. Th
e DFWM spectra of SH A(2) Sigma-X(2) Pi(i) (0,0) transitions have been
observed and the nascent rotational distributions, spin-orbit state r
atio, and Lambda-doublet population ratio of the SH fragments have bee
n extracted. The rotational distributions are cold and characterized b
y a Boltzmann temperature of 348 +/- 20 K for the SH((2) Pi(3/2)) stat
e. The Lambda-doublet population ratio has been found to be close to u
nity. The SH((2) Pi(3/2))/SH((2) Pi(1/2)) ratio has been observed to b
e 3.50 +/- 0.18. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
