Sl. Carmichael et al., DETERMINANTS OF PARTICIPATION IN A NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTATION PROJECT IN RURAL GUATEMALA, Nutrition research, 14(2), 1994, pp. 163-176
The factors which influence participation in nutrition interventions a
re not well understood. This study identifies the relative importance
of various determinants of participation in a longitudinal, on-site nu
tritional supplementation project conducted in rural Guatemala. The st
udy examines attendance of children age 0-72 months at the feeding cen
ters during the first year of the project, 1969. The results indicate
that participation did not occur at random, and a variety of factors c
ontributed to the participation of individual children, particularly m
other's literacy, child's age, family size, and distance from the home
to the feeding center.
