Abstract
We present results of calculations of perturbative rates for two- and three-photon detachment and ionization of H- and He, and for simultane ous excitation of H-, by linearly polarized light over a range of freq uencies extending into the ''excess-photon detachment and ionization'' region, a region replete with resonances. Simultaneous excitation of H is more probable than not in the case of two-photon detachment of H- .
