A new semi-empirical/semi-theoretical compaction equation for powder m
aterials which describes the relationship between the green density of
compacts and the applied external pressure is presented. This equatio
n involves three empirical constants, which are explained physically.
The agreement between the equation and the experimental data for green
density as a function of pressure for five powder materials is satisf
actory in the pressure range tested. It is concluded that the equation
is applicable to metallized ceramic powders, mixed ceramic/metallic p
owders and pure metallic powders.
