Abstract
A polymorphism at codon 36 in exon 4 of the p53 gene was identified by single strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis and direct se quencing of genomic DNA PCR products. The polymorphic allele, present in the heterozygous state in genomic DNAs of four of 100 individuals ( 4%), changes the codon 36 CCG to CCA, eliminates a FinI restriction si te and creates a BccI site. Including this polymorphism there are four known polymorphisms in the p53 coding sequence.
