Ma. Odell et al., ROTATION PERIODS OF SELECTED MEMBERS OF THE ALPHA-PERSEI CLUSTER .2., Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 284(4), 1997, pp. 874-884
We present the results of a photometric monitoring programme of nine G
-K dwarf members of the young open cluster surrounding alpha Persei. T
he aim of this programme was to measure the axial rotation periods of
five rapid rotators (v sin i > 50 km s(-1)) and four slow rotators (v
sin i less than or equal to 10 km s(-1)) to further our study of the d
istribution of rotation rates of the low-mass population of the cluste
r. We successfully measured accurate rotation periods for all of the f
ive rapid rotators, most of which exhibited significant rotational mod
ulation. In contrast the slow rotators exhibited light curve amplitude
s below the threshold of photometric detectability. We applied a forma
l statistical analysis to our data and found strong evidence for varia
bility (Delta V similar to 0.03 mag) in only one of the slow rotating
targets.
