Dj. Lockwood et al., OPTICAL-ABSORPTION EVIDENCE FOR QUANTUM CONFINEMENT EFFECTS IN POROUSSILICON, Solid state communications, 89(7), 1994, pp. 587-589
Measurements of the optical and structural characteristics of various
porous Si samples have been correlated. Although the photoluminescence
peak wavelength shows no correlation with the Si nanoparticle size, t
he optical absorption edge exhibits a strong inverse correlation that
is in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions for the optical
gap in Si spheres or quantum dots. This constitutes direct evidence f
or quantum confinement effects in porous Si.
