EPR spectra attributed to Cu2+ paramagnetic ions have been observed be
low T = 130 K, in the low-temperature ferroelectric phase of as grown
Rb2ZnCl4 single crystals doped in the melt with CuCl2. Their concentra
tion is strongly increased by subsequent X- or gamma-ray irradiation a
t room temperature. The analysis of the EPR spectra shows the Cu2+ ion
s to be situated at the distorted, tetrahedrally coordinated Zn2+ site
s.
