Abstract
This paper describes a knowledge-based system to support concurrent de
sign and analysis. The system, DESSIA (DEsign Support System for Integ
rated Analysis) provides designers with information to analyze a probl
em and obtain design outputs by using the expertise accumulated in the
system. The system Combines a knowledge base, engineering database, a
nd program library in an object-oriented expert shell. The system is f
lexible and evolutional. Programs and data can be registered, maintain
ed, and developed with little labor, thereby providing a systematic fr
amework for constructing and developing hierarchical databases of prog
rams and data for concurrent design and analysis.
