Design for assembly and manufacture (DFA/DFM) is one of the techniques used to reduce product costs, design quality into the product and res pond rapidly to the market changes by shortening the time to market. U nlike conventional cost reduction schemes, which are carried out after completion of detailed design, the Productivity Evaluation System use d by Fujitsu has been developed as a tool which can be applied to manu ally assembled desktop-size products, to enable cost reduction to be p ursued from the early stages of design.
