A model based on a numerical solution of the Fick's equation is propos
ed for the kinetics of carburization occuring during the preparation o
f sintered steels in (hydrogen + methane) atmosphere. It appears that
carburization arises from two processes: transfer from the gas on the
sample surface, then diffusion to the bulk. The respective transfer an
d diffusion coefficients have been determined as well as the influence
of temperature, compaction pressure and thickness of compacts.
