Abstract
Effects of a single high dose of X-irradiation (15 Gy) to the head and neck region in adult male rats were examined. Three days after radiat ion, rats were infused with [C-14]-iodoantipyrine (IAP) via the femora l vein. Animals were killed at designated times thereafter and the thr ee major salivary glands removed. The uptake of IAP by these tissues w as analysed using a pharmacokinetic model. Radiation had relatively mo dest effects on all measured variables when compared with results from the non-irradiated control and pair-fed groups.
