M. Ambrosio et al., TIME-TRACK COMPLEMENTARITY APPROACH FOR THE STUDY OF THE EAS LONGITUDINAL DEVELOPMENT, Journal of physics. G, Nuclear and particle physics, 23(2), 1997, pp. 219-236
The possibility of using muon tracking and timing measurements for the
reconstruction of the EAS hadron longitudinal-development in the knee
energy region is discussed. Simulation results are presented which in
dicate that, provided these measurements are used as complementary and
with reasonable TTC ('time-track complementarity') selection, the acc
uracy of the muon production height reconstruction is sufficiently goo
d even for sub-GeV energy muons, observed at sea level. Possible appli
cations and advantages of the TTC approach in the study of primary cos
mic rays and high-energy interactions are discussed.
