Various techniques are available to fabricate metal matrix composites
(MMCs). The distribution of the reinforcement, after fabrication, is o
ne of the important factors affecting the mechanical, physical and oth
er properties. This paper describes previous work on aspects, especial
ly the solidification behaviour, affecting the final reinforcement and
discusses the current methods employed in the quantitative measuremen
t of the distribution of the reinforcement.
