Vn. Romannikov et Kg. Ione, THE PECULARITIES OF THE ETHYLATION OF TOLUENE AND BENZENE ON MODIFIEDBETA ZEOLITES, Journal of catalysis, 146(1), 1994, pp. 211-217
The catalytic activity of Beta zeolites, modified with magnesium, boro
n, and phosphorus compounds, was studied using benzene and toluene alk
ylation by ethylene. The concentrations of different types of acid cen
ters in these zeolites were measured using IR spectroscopy of OH group
s and adsorbed CO. Ortho-, meta-, and para-isomer distributions of the
primary alkylation products of toluene are determined by aromatic sub
stitution rates. But, if the conditions for further isomerization of t
he product are created by increasing either the reaction temperature o
r the concentration of strong acid centers in the catalyst, the select
ivity ratio among the isomers will be changed and approach the thermod
ynamic equilibrium distribution. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
