Abstract
The promotion of oriented calcite crystallization by various polyelect rolytes, in particular their relative efficiency, has been investigate d. Gelatin containing polyelectrolytes was found to overcome the compa tibility problem between an inert matrix and the water-soluble polyele ctrolytes associated with biomineralization (the Figure shows calcite crystals grown on such a substrate).
