Abstract
Single diffraction dissociation cross sections of both beam and target particles. have been measured in 147 GeV/c pi+p interactions. The dat a were recorded by the Fermilab Hybrid 30-inch Bubble Chamber Spectrom eter. The diffraction dissociation events are recognized by leading pa rticle signals above background. The pion dissociation cross section i s 1895+/-108 mub. The proton dissociation cross section is 1880+/-143 mub. The results are compared to results of a similar study using 147 GeV/c pi-p interactions. These combined results are used to study fact orization of the diffraction dissociation cross section.
