CEREBROSPINAL-FLUID OXYTOCIN CONCENTRATION IN SCHIZOPHRENIC-PATIENTS DOES NOT DIFFER FROM CONTROL SUBJECTS AND IS NOT CHANGED BY NEUROLEPTIC MEDICATION

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) oxytocin concentrations in 20 neuroleptic-tr
eated schizophrenic patients, 31 neuroleptic-withdrawn schizophrenic p
atients, and 15 normal control subjects were compared. Neither within-
subject comparisons of CSF oxytocin concentration measurements made du
ring neuroleptic treatment and withdrawal (n = 11), nor comparison of
the combined neuroleptic-withdrawn and neuroleptic treated patient gro
up (n = 40) with control subjects (n = 15) differed significantly, sug
gesting that CSF oxytocin concentration is not altered in schizophreni
a.
