Cr. Mirasso et al., PULSE-TO-PULSE FREQUENCY JITTER IN DIODE-LASERS AND SOLITON TRANSMISSION, IEEE photonics technology letters, 5(12), 1993, pp. 1455-1458
The transmission of solitons at 2.5 Gb / s with a gain-switched and op
tically filtered laser diode as a signal source is analyzed. The effec
tive pulsewidth as a function of distance for different filter locatio
ns is numerically obtained. The pulse spreading observed in transmissi
on experiments is shown to be due to the pulse-to-pulse frequency jitt
er originated in the gain-switched laser diode. This spreading is supp
ressed with the use of periodically spaced filters.
