Ya. Romanov, IGNITION PROBLEMS IN HEAVY-ION FUSION-TARGETS, Nuovo cimento della Società Italiana di Fisica. A. Nuclei, particles and fields, 106(12), 1993, pp. 1913-1918
A brief review is presented of the work performed at the VNIIEF Center
(Arzamas 16, Russia) on physical problems relevant to the design of t
argets for heavy-ion inertial fusion. Target design topics dealt with
include indirect-drive schemes, symmetry issues, development of concep
ts for achieving ignition in the presence of a certain degree of asymm
etry. In addition, material properties (such as opacities) are studied
both theoretically and experimentally. Recent work on turbulent mixin
g is also discussed.
