Abstract
A geometric procedure allowing graphical construction of the caustic o f a plane curve (2D mirror) illuminated by a parallel light beam is re minded. A new geometric variational criterion is given to determine th e position of caustic regression points. Parametric equations of the c austic in an arbitrary cartesian coordinate system are calculated. It is proved that the loci of foci corresponding to different slopes of t he incident beam form a regular curve.
