Sw. Hell, IMPROVEMENT OF LATERAL RESOLUTION IN FAR-FIELD FLUORESCENCE LIGHT-MICROSCOPY BY USING 2-PHOTON EXCITATION WITH OFFSET BEAMS, Optics communications, 106(1-3), 1994, pp. 19-24
A method is described of increasing the resolution in far-field fluore
scence light microscopy by a factor of 2. Calculations show that a lat
eral resolution of 75 nm is achieved with a lens of numerical aperture
of 1.4 (oil immersion) by a two-photon excitation mode with each phot
on stemming from displaced focused light beams of lambda=500 nm and ov
erlapping main maxima.
