Abstract
New experimental results concerning the concentration quenching of the luminescence of the I-4(9/2) level of Er3+ in different laser crystal s, at room temperature, are presented. The detrimental effect of the c oncentration quenching of I-4(9/2) level on the 3 mum emission of Er l asers, expressed by the figure of merit, h, is discussed.
