P. Barone et al., DEVELOPMENTAL-CHANGES IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE IN THE EXTRASTRIATE VISUAL-CORTEX OF THE MONKEY, Developmental brain research, 77(2), 1994, pp. 290-294
In the fetal and neonatal monkey, periodically organized regions of hi
gh activity of acetylcholinesterase were found in the visual cortical
area V2 (Area 18). The acetylcholinesterase bands, like the thin and t
hick stripes of cytochrome oxidase, were found to run orthogonal to th
e area 17/18 border. During neonatal development these bands progressi
vely narrow and finally disappear shortly after four months of age.
