Xf. Xu et al., MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF RFE(10)SI(2)C(X) PREPARED BY ARC-MELTING (R=Y,GD, DY, AND ER), Solid state communications, 89(4), 1994, pp. 409-412
Samples of RFe(10)Si(2)C(x) with R = Y, Gd, Dy, and Er; x = 0, 0.1, 0.
3, and 0.5 were prepared by are-melting. X-ray diffraction and thermom
agnetic analyses showed that interstitial carbides with the ThMn12 str
ucture are formed. Similar to R(2)Fe(17)C(x), the amount of C in the i
nterstitial carbides is much smaller by are melting than that by gas-s
olid reaction. Lattice expansion and Curie temperature enhancement are
observed, but the effects of C addition are small. Spin reorientation
temperatures of DyFe10Si2 and ErFe10Si2 decrease due to the interstit
ial C atoms.
