Abstract
The 12-dihydro-5,12-methanonaphtho-[2,3-g]phthalazine) ruthenium(II) c omplex exists in two diastereomeric forms, (3a) and (3b). In order to make an unambiguous assignment of the configuration of each stereoisom er, a single-crystal X-ray structure of the hexafluorophosphate salt o f the less soluble isomer (in methanol/acetone) was carried out. It wa s found that the structure of this material corresponded to (3a). Diff erences in the H-1 n.m.r. spectra of (3a) and (3b) are discussed in li ght of their structures.
